Create CBR CBZ Files and Insert Images in Sequence

The comic book archives CBR, CBZ, CBT, CB7 and CBA are very easy to create. Any normal computer user, even a non-technical user can easily create CBR CBZ files. To create a comic book archive (CBR CBZ) we just need to follow a few simple steps. Put images in a folder (in sequence), compress that folder and change its file extension. That's it.

So let’s start the work with this step by step guide.

Create Comic Book Archives (CBR CBZ Files) and Insert Images in Serial Order

Before we start, download the file compression-extraction software's Win RAR and 7-Zip. We will need these tools to perform this action. Well, both are easy to find on any ordinary computer. But if you don't have, you can download Win RAR or 7-zip from their Official Websites from the links given below.

Download Win RAR

Download 7-zip

Step By Step Guide to Create a CBR file and Insert Images in Sequence

Step 1: Install Win RAR to create a CBR Archive.

Step 2: Put all your images in a folder in Sequence and rename that folder whatever you want.

Fixed: Wrong Image Sequence Issue in CBR CBZ Archive

The files names (images) inside the archive (CBR CBZ), are usually numbered in ascending order according to the original file (image) names/numbers. The images will appear in the CBR CBZ file is in alphabetical order. For example, you added 5 images to the folder named as; img4, img2, img1, 5 and img3. Then these images will appear in the CBR CBZ file in alphabetical order like;  5, img1, img2, img3 and img4.

It is OK, if you added only 9 images to a CBR CBZ file and renamed them in alphabetical order. But if you added numerous of images, then here is a problem.

The Comic Book Archive format reads files in the alphabetical order of 1, 10, 11, .....19, 2, 20, 21,.....29, 3, 30, 31......and so on, rather than the true numerical order of 1, 2, 3, ....9, 10, 11, .....19, 20, 21,.... 29, 30, 31.... and so on. Because of this, each file name starting with '1' will come before '2'. Similarly each file name starting with '2' will come before '3'. This means, number '11' will come before number '2', the number '22' will come before number '3' and the rest will also appear similarly. Therefore, the images will not appear in serial order in the CBR CBZ file.

Solution:

For Less than 100 Imagpes:

If you are going to create a CBR CBZ file and planning to insert 1-99 images (less than 100). Just rename the first 9 images to… 1=1.1, 2=1.2, 3=1.3, 4=1.4 ……….9=1.9. You just have to do this to bring the images in sequence, if they are less than 100. Now the images will appear in sequence in the CBR CBZ archive.

More than 100 Images:

If you are planning to create a CBR CBZ archive having more than 100 images, then manually renaming the files is a bit confusing and a difficult task. While performing this task, you might be get frustrated and disrupt many times. Therefore, I would strongly recommend you to use the 'Advanced Renamer' tool to renaming the files.

Download Advanced Renamer

Install and open Advanced Renamer, add all the images (Don’t add by directory, add files). After adding images, select all the images and in ‘Add Batch Method’ select ‘New Name’. Then click on ‘<Inc Nr> Incrementing Numbers’ then '<Inc NrDir> Incrementing numbers per directory’. Now click on ‘Start Batch’ and then ‘Start’. The images names have been changed and now they are ready for CBR CBZ Archive.

If you need a brief guide on Advanced Renamer tool, simply leave a comment.

OK, let's get back to the main topic.

Step 3: After renaming the files, right click on the folder and then click on Add to (your folder name).

Step 4: Compression will start and it will take a few seconds or minutes to complete, depending on the folder size.

Step 5: Now you have a RAR file ready. Change its file extension from (dot)rar to(dot)cbr.

Now your CBR file is ready to read.

Step 4: Compression will start and it will take a few seconds or minutes to complete, depending on the folder size.

Step 5: Now you have a 7z file ready. Change its file extension from (dot)7z to (dot)cbz.

That’s it, you have successfully created your CBZ file.

Add Signature or a Message in the CBR CBZ File

Yes, you heard it right, you can add your Signature or a Message in the CBR CBZ file. First of all create a text file of your signature or the message. Now you can show your signature at three different places in the CBR CBZ file. At startup, in the middle and at the end of the archive.

First place, at the startup of the file, right before the first image. To insert your signature here, just rename your signature file to ‘0’ (if a file name with ‘0’ is already there, simply rename that file to ‘0.1’ from ‘0'.

Second place is in the middle of the archive. To add your signature in this place, just rename your signature file to ‘?.1’ (?=where you want to show it). For example, if you want to show your signature after 25th number (on 26th position), simply rename your signature to ’25.1’.  Now it will appears on the 26th position.

The third and the final place is at the end of the file. To add your signature at the end of the file, just rename your signature file to ‘z’. If there is already a file starting with ‘z’, then rename your signature to ‘the last alphabet’. For example, If there is a file name with ‘Zombie’,  then rename your signature to ‘Zombie1’. That’s it.

So this is the most easiest method to make CBR CBZ files, that I know. How was this guide, please must tell us. And if you know any other way to perform this task (more easiest way) please share it with us.

  2. This doesn't work in Advanced Renamer. Instead, use Renumber in Advanced Renamer. Add leading zeroes and don't change the numbers themselves.
